Tim has been working in themed and theatrical design for over 25 years and holds a BGS from the University of Michigan and an MFA in Design from the Yale School of Drama. He has created experiential designs for: public spaces, retail applications, private homes, themed environments, theme parks, broadcast studios and Broadway shows. He toured the globe as the Resident Designer for the renowned Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, which in turn led to extensive work on international dance, theatre and opera stages.
His desire to expand artistically carried him into theme park and themed retail design where he created experiences for Disney, Universal Studios Florida, Footlocker and others. Collaborating closely with architects on these projects, Tim saw an opportunity to bring the dramatic messaging vocabulary of theatre and his understanding of the audience experience to media and architectural projects. In 1996, he established Tim Hunter Design to further explore experiential design in public and private environments.
Bringing his wide range of knowledge and experience to the classroom, Tim has served as a Lecturer at Yale University and is currently a Professor at the University of Connecticut. His goal is to create a unique program of learning that develops each student’s skill sets while expanding their design perspective in order to best prepare them for today’s challenging and rapidly evolving work environment.
