Tim Hunter: Founder & CEO
Tim has worked in media, architectural and theatrical design for over 25 years and holds a BGS from the University of Michigan and an MFA in Design from the Yale School of Drama. He has created television and film animations and experiential designs for mixed-use developments, retail centers, cultural institutions, hospitality venues, public spaces, private homes, theme parks, television studios and Broadway shows.

He toured the globe for 12 years as the Resident Designer for the renowned Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, which in turn led to extensive work on international dance, theatre and opera stages.

His desire to expand artistically led him into theme park and themed retail design where he created experiences for firms such as Disney, Universal Studios Florida and Footlocker. Collaborating closely with architects on these projects, Tim saw an opportunity to bring the dramatic expressions of the theatre and his understanding of the audience experience to media and architectural projects.

In 1996, he established Tim Hunter Design (THD) to further explore experiential design in public and private environments. Tim’s understanding of the exciting convergence of media, design, architecture, and technology combined with our firm’s commitment to holistic design practices has elevated THD to be a nationally recognized experiential design firm that is committed to immersing itself in our clients' culture, history, vision and dreams so we might conceive one-of-a-kind world class experiences that are as unique as each of our clients.

In support of our award winning processes, THD is committed to the knowledge and understanding of cutting edge media production processes, diverse media systems and technologies while offering a full range of design and production services including concept & design development, digital media design & production, construction management, on-site programming and pro forma analyses of our design solutions.

Since its inception, THD has developed unique, innovative television commercials for ExxonMobil; media for Armani Exchange, Comcast, CNN, Dr. Pepper, First Republic Bank, Heineken, ING NYC Marathon, JCDecauxNA, Lincoln, Microsoft, Time Warner Inc. and installations for clients such as The Related Companies, SOM, Iu+Bibliowizc, Gensler, Comcast, Elkus/Manfredi, Meadowlands Xanadu and Harrah’s Resorts. The diverse THD portfolio includes award-winning installations for commercial, retail, educational and hospitality projects throughout the United States.

Tim has served as a Lecturer at Yale University and is currently a Professor at the University of Connecticut. In addition to his responsibilities at UCONN within the School of Fine Arts, he has been developing an inter-disciplinary Center for Digital Media supported by the Schools of Business, Engineering and Fine Arts. His goal is to create a trans-disciplinary Center of learning promoting student development in the digital arts and innovative visualization techniques in order to better prepare them for today’s challenging and rapidly evolving digital work environment.
